Phalaborwa – Silonque Road
About the Birding
The Silonque Road which takes one out of Phalaborwa to Masorini Bush Lodge (Birder Friendly Establishment) provides a good opportunity for raptor viewing and general birding. The nearby rubbish dump (signposted off the Silonque Road) is a fantastic spot to look for Marabou Storks and White-backed Vulture. The road out to Silonque is ideal for raptors including both the Brown and Black-chested Snake Eagles, Steppe Eagle (summer), Lesser Spotted and Tawny Eagles.
About the Birding Site
The majority of birders actively plan birding trips to areas where they can either see a large number of birds in a short space of time or around rarities/localized species that would not easily be seen elsewhere. The Kruger to Canyons Birding Route offers both these highlights and a captivating wildlife experience to visiting birders.
