Northern Escarpment – Bramasole
About the Birding
The grassland on either side of the R71, shortly after the Magoebaskloof hotel and signposted as ‘Bramasole’ is rich in species and worth a brief stop en route to the Woodbush Forest, Debegeni Falls or any of the other birding sites in the region. The grassland consists of an interesting mix of intact montane grassland, bramble, and non-native plantations.
About the Birding Site
The Capricorn-Letaba birding route stretches from the city of Polokwane in the west to the Great Letaba River beyond the Letsitele valley in the east. The route runs just a few degrees south of the Tropic of Capricorn, mainly along the R71 road which links the towns of Polokwane, Haenertsburg, Tzaneen and Gravelotte.
Other Related Information
Driving along the R71, pass the Magoebaskloof Hotel on your right before turning left (after roughly 200m) onto the unpaved road sign-posted as ‘Bramasole.’ Park your car here and walk along the road through the grassland.
