Bezhoek Private Nature Reserve and Tented Camp

About the Accommodation

Bezhoek Private Nature Reserve and Tented Camp is located along the Olifants River Valley near Middelburg, Mpumalanga and is designated as an irreplaceable and highly significant area in terms of the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Authority’s bio-diversity assessment criteria, which has qualified the Reserve to be registered as a Protected area.

This unique Reserve is situated in the transition area of the Lowveld and Highveld and boasts more grass species than the Kruger National Park. Extensive riverfrontages, permanent internal wetlands and streams, riverine forestation, gorges, savannah plains, rocky outcrops and cliffs make the Reserve a hidden gem in the Middelburg and Witbank region and more than justify the Reserve’s irreplaceable and highly significant status.

With over 300 confirmed bird species on the Reserve, this is a must-visit destination for recreational and serious birders alike. Iconic bird species including African Finfoot, Verreaux’s Eagle, White-bellied Korhaan and Southern Bald Ibis, as well as the better-represented groups including kingfishers, goshawks, swallows, nightjars and owls, can be spotted in this diverse avian wonderland.

Kudu, Eland, Giraffe, Impala, Blesbuck, Bushbuck, Springbok, Wildebeest, Ostrich, Red Hartebeest, Klipspringer, Waterbuck, Oribi, Leopard, Hyena, Aardwolf, Bushpig, Honey Badger and Serval are some of the game which roam freely on over 3000 hectares. The African Finfoot, Southern Bald Ibis and Denhams Bustard are present in the over 277 confirmed bird sightings.
