Little Switzerland Resort is situated on the slopes of the mighty Drakensberg, set in a 3000 hectare private reserve of rolling hills, indigenous forest, mountain streams, breathtaking views and a dedicated bird hide. The iconic mountain peaks offer every excitement, from serious hiking and hairpin drives to gentle strolls through forested glades. Here at Little Switzerland, you’ll find yourself in the middle of it all. The Little Switzerland staff is extremely helpful and always on hand to point out trails and not-to-be-missed sights.

For those who love privacy and a combination of creature comforts and independence, the comfortably furnished chalets are a world apart. Choose between luxury or family rooms in the hotel which includes breakfast or self-catering units. All have magnificent panoramic views of the amphitheatre or lush surrounding forests. There are also newly renovated chalets available. These can only be booked directly through Little Switzerland Resort as there are only 7 completed and they are not available for on-line reservations.

Nearby is the Royal Natal National Park, a beautiful place far from the well-trodden tourist paths, where you can climb, bike, ride horseback, fish and spot birds and wildlife to your heart’s content.

Little Switzerland also offers a great birding experience and species like Dwarf Bittern, Bush Blackcap, Denham’s Bustard, Common (Kurrichane) Buttonquail, Corncrake, Southern Bald Ibis, Blue, Grey Crowned as well as Wattled Cranes can be observed. You could also spot various birds of prey like Booted and Crowned Eagles, Lanner and Peregrine Falcons, Harriers, African Cuckoo Hawk, Bearded Vulture, just to mention a few.
