Bird Club – Ladysmith Birders

More about the bird club:

An informal bird club, brought together by a shared interest in birds.  Our focus is on learning about birds and promoting the area as a birding destination. More than 350 species can be found within 50km of the meeting venue, and over 200 within the Ladysmith pentad.  Membership is about 30 active local birder with a number of additional “remote” members.

Meetings are irregular, generally every two months.  Regular outing to local sites take place,  with almost weekly trips to the local sewage works, Malandeni, an excellent site for water bird including an almost resident flocks of Flamingos. Other local areas include Ingula and the Nelson’s Kop areas, Weenen and Spionkop Nature Reserves, and the Northern and Central Berg. The area is particularly good for Crane Species and a good place to check out your LBJ identification skill in the many grassland areas surrounding the town.

“Join us for a Lark” the clubs maxim, is applied figuratively and literally, and members will be keen to show visitors the area around the District.  There are community guides at Ingula and in Van Reenen. Contact one of the following for details, and to get onto the Ladysmith Birders distribution list for information on local birds.
