Surrounding Thaba Eco Hotel, Kraal Restaurant, E|Bar and Sinzinani Spa is an incredible natural haven that we, and the species of Fauna and Flora that call it home, know as our beloved Thaba Eco Park. Over 230 bird species have been identified, here and within the surrounding areas.

Best season for birdwatching is in our Summer months, after good rainfall. This is when several male birds showcase their impressive breeding plumage and migratory birds are visiting from as far as Europe and North Africa. These include: european bee-eater, redbacked shrike, european nighjar, greatspotted cuckoo and european honey buzzard.

Thaba Eco Park is a sanctuary for Highveld grassland and bushveld bird species, including: cape longclaw, orangeriver francolin, acacia pied barbet, fiscal flycatcher, redcollared widowbird, verreaux eagle, black sparrowhawk, secretary bird, crimson breasted shrike- to name a few.

In addition, the hotel gardens offer a haven for several species of birds, with ample water features and well-wooded gardens. Paradise flycatcher, grey go-away bird, southern boubou, red bishop, southern masked weaver, redwinged starling, crested barbet, cardinal woodpecker, whitebellied sunbird, barn owl, african grey hornbill and spotted eagle owl- may be observed, when taking a stroll along the pathways. You might be lucky to spot the world’s largest bird, an ostrich, that inhabit a camp bordering the hotel.

Thaba Eco Hotel and Thaba Eco Park are dedicated to nature conservation, education, and the enjoyment of these incredible natural spaces that keep us grounded. Our commitment to environmental responsibility is woven into the very fabric of the property. Our talented team has crafted stunning landscapes that thrive without excessive water or damage to the environment, in order to maintain and protect the natural biodiversity of the area #celebratinglife #celebratingnature
