Soutpansberg – Buzzard Mountain Retreat

About the Birding

Buzzard Mountain Retreat is situated on the southern slopes of the Soutpansberg. The habitat varies from sweet mixed bushveld to mist belt forest and Afromontane grassland. Proteas are found in the grassland and Cape Rock Thrush, Cape Grassbird, Malachite Sunbird and Gurney´s Sugarbird may be seen in these high-altitude areas. The trails through the forests below the cliffs offer prospects for the scarce Orange-winged Pytilia, Green Twinspot and Lemon Dove. Forest Buzzard and Ayres´s Hawk-Eagle can also be seen soaring over the forest.
