Greater Plettenberg Bay – Cairnbrogie
About the Birding
A small fee allows access to this working Dairy Farm. Denham’s Bustard, Secretary Bird, Zitting and Wing-snapping Cisticola are found in the fields. The fynbos section can offer up Cape Grassbird. Cape Siskin, Rock Kestrel and Grey-backed Cisticola found towards the cliff section. In this area there is also Forest and Jackal Buzzard, Long-crested Eagle and Yellow-billed Kite (in summer), usually over the adjacent pine plantation.
About the Birding Site
Due to the variety of different habitats, many interesting species can be found on a birding trip to this farm. Waterbirds can be found on the dams and waterworks, grassland birds can be found in the farmland, and forest species can be seen on some of the trails. Up to 80 species is easily possible in a day’s birding at Cairnbrogie.
