Bonamanzi Game Lodge
About the Accommodation
Bonamanzi is a privately owned Game Reserve, 4000 hectares in size with the Hluhluwe River forming our Eastern border. Proclaimed a Natural Heritage Site in 1995 in recognition of the biodiversity of the Reserve we offer Sand Forests, Savanna & Wetland Areas. This diversity is why Bonamanzi is recognised as one of the best birding destinations in Southern Africa.
From the Eastern side of the Reserve, we offer magnificent views over False Bay – on the Western side a Viewing Deck overlooking the Lalapanzi Dam where one can relax and watch the sunset.
About the Birding
With three different eco-systems on the Reserve Bonamanzi is a Birding Paradise. There are few places where you can find 29 birds on the red data list and over 408 recorded bird species. The Sand Forest area is home to the Pink-Throated Twinspot, Lemon Breasted Canary, Rudd’s Apalis, African Broadbill, Narina Trogon and the Green Malkoha to mention a few.
Equally rewarding, is a Game Drive with a guided walk out onto the Floodplains where you can see different birding habitats, rare birds like the Rosy-throated Longclaw and a whole host of waterbirds like Greater Flamingo, African Spoonbill and Great White Pelican. This drive leaves the Reserve, goes through a local village to reach the Plains.
